Online Certificate Course in School Librarianship

A six months Online Certificate Course in School Librarianship (CCSL) begins at Regional Institute of Education, NCERT, Manasagangothri, Mysore. The course was formally inaugurated recently by Prof. D.G.Rao, Principal of the Institute.

The Certificate Course in School Librarianship (CCSL) is a programme designed for the target group working as Teacher librarians, In-charge Librarians, Librarians and also the Administrative staff of Elementary, Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools. Later on, the course will also be made open for those who wish to select School Librarianship as a profession. This is a 6 credit course of six months duration organized under two modules. The programme is designed on e-Learning environment using Moodle software, wherein the major instructional inputs are provided online. There will be two face to face contact programmes of 10 days each, with a time gap for undertaking assigned activities.

The course was designed with the objective to develop essential professional skills and competencies among the participant to plan and acquire good collection for school library, organise and manage school library effectively and efficiently, provide better library services to school children and teachers in web environment, nurture reading among school children and initiate collaborative learning, and organise information literacy programmes for the benefit of students and teachers for the effective use of digital and web resources.

Initially, the certificate course will be for the deputed candidates from schools and school education system of Southern states with basic computer skills. Later on it will be open to non-deputed candidates with a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
